Sources and method
All entries come from the official 1 October 2025 annual edition of 49 CFR 172.101 on GovInfo.
Source and edition
The UNECE ADR download page could not be retrieved. This test uses the permitted US Hazardous Materials Table fallback. It is a dated US table, not a current ADR table. The retrieval date is recorded on every page.
The generator reads the 14-column Hazardous Materials Table in the official XML. It groups explicit UN identifiers and attaches blank-name continuation rows to the preceding name, description, class and symbols, keeping their own packing group. NA and ID identifiers, unnumbered cross-references and forbidden entries without a UN identifier do not get UN pages.
Names and row-specific values
Column 2 includes proper shipping names and descriptive text. Under 172.101(c), the words in roman type form the proper shipping name; italic qualifiers are shown separately in the full column-2 description. The italic connector "or" is retained between alternative names, including when it ends a longer italic qualifier. Capitalisation is preserved, whitespace is normalised and long dashes become hyphens.
Every row block shows its own proper shipping name, full description, US hazard class or division, packing group and column-1 symbols. The source row number counts data rows after the numbered header. A blank packing group is shown as "Not listed (blank in source)". No group or class is inferred. Repeated rows are retained.
The short answer gives the first listed proper shipping name and the class and packing groups attached to that name. If other names are listed for the number, it says so. All descriptions remain below.
Scope
The source edition has fewer than 3000 distinct UN numbers, so no popularity selection is needed. UN 3132 is omitted because its source has a malformed continuation cell. This lookup does not reproduce packaging instructions, special provisions, quantity limits or the other HMT columns. A number alone does not establish the classification or shipping requirements for a particular consignment.
Check the current ADR edition before shipping. This is a US HMT reference snapshot, not ADR classification or shipping, legal or safety advice.
